It’s the perfect time of year to spend some quality time
in Manotick. A short drive from just about anywhere in
the area, this idyllic countryside village beckons you
with a warm welcome and attractions that will delight
the whole family. Renowned for its many charms and
exceptional quality of life, the village is perched along
the Rideau River about 20 kilometres south of Ottawa.
Manotick, in Ojibwa, means island in the river.
The name of the village was chosen, back in the 1800s,
by Moss Kent Dickinson. In 1860, Dickinson, along
with his partner, Joseph Currier, built a mill, now
known as Watson’s Mill, that would serve as part of the
base for formation of the village.
Today, gorgeous Watson’s Mill is an acclaimed
village landmark. Situated in historic Dickinson
Square on Mill Street, it is one of the best preserved
mills in Ontario.
