Finding Balance in
Hectic Pace of Fall
A warm welcome to our fall issue. It’s not easy keeping pace with the continuous
and rapid changes we’re seeing to this growing, beautiful city of ours. But in this
issue we’ve certainly done our best to show you what’s going on, where you can go
to have fun in the fall months and how to get the most of your free time this fall.
Because fall is a time when we think about heading indoors — or at least planning
it — this issue has some current advice on all things home and garden,
including how to put your favourite plants to bed and what to consider before you
do those final home renovations.
It might sound a bit crazy, but I like the fall because it means it’s time to clean
up the garden, put the lawn furniture away and finish those little repair jobs before
winter. Our homes and our nest eggs need to be maintained and protected. When
it comes to tackling those home projects, many of my friends have told me that I
wouldn’t be so enthusiastic if I didn’t have a partner who can do just about anything.
At the risk of gloating, my husband can build, fix, create and adapt just
about anything. He’s smart, logical and methodical — all the necessary ingredients
for being successful at those jobs around the house.
Many homeowners struggle with maintenance because they just are not
handy. Now, I’m sure I’m going to get into a little hot water on this comment, but
beyond the basics, we often are at the mercy of contractors. Unless you’ve done
your homework, this can be a very intimidating task. But don’t despair, in this issue
we’ve managed to tickle your fancy in all the right places so that you can learn
everything you need to know about managing any household project.
We can’t forget that early fall is the busiest time for families getting back into
a routine after a long summer break, so we’ve brought you some helpful hints
on how to bring some sanity into the hours after school, meal preparation and
much more.
We also continue to update our popular — and now expanded — restaurant
listings. The fall months bring some of the best times to enjoy a night or lunch
out with family or friends. Take advantage of all the expanding and trendy eateries
that are opening in this area. Our coverage of the arts and cultural activities,
including theatre productions and museum attractions, has also been expanded
with this issue.
We hope you enjoy your complimentary copy. If you have any comments, we
welcome your feedback. Write to me either by snail mail or e-mail. Enjoy the great
fall and all that this great city has to offer this season.
