Most people can benefit from physiotherapy, whether their
condition is an ankle sprain or a disc herniation in the back.
Common reasons people choose physiotherapy are back or neck
pain, arthritis, sports injuries, muscle strain and sprains and
mobility problems.
A physiotherapist is a university-educated health professional.
In Ontario, he or she must be registered with the College of
Physiotherapists. Once you’ve decided you need physiotherapy,
you have the freedom to choose your own physiotherapist.
Recommendations from your doctor, friends and family can
help you make your decision.
When you see a physiotherapist, he or she will do an extensive
assessment that should include your health history, evaluation of
pain and movement patterns, strength, range of motion, reflexes,
and sensation. Based on this, the physiotherapist establishes
a diagnosis and works with you to develop individualized goals
and treatment programs.
Ensure you receive physiotherapy from a registered physiotherapist.
Clinics often have assistants to help physiotherapists.
They are not trained to assess you or progress your treatment.
You should see your physiotherapist every session. Good physiotherapists
do everything to help patients feel better as fast as possible
with as few treatments as necessary. If you are not seeing
improvements after two to four weeks, your physiotherapist
should discuss a change in treatment.
PSI Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centres are the only
Ottawa clinics accredited by the Canadian Physiotherapy
Association for excellence in service. All PSI’s physiotherapists
are registered. We aim to make you feel, perform and play better

Heritage Academy, founded in 1989, is a private notfor-profit,
non-denominational school. It provides an environment
where students from Grades 1-12 are excited about
learning and can meet their full potential, while studying at
their own rate on an enriched curriculum. Developing good
study skills, fully understanding earlier materials before moving
on, and good citizenship are emphasized. Heritage
Academy believes any person can learn any subject or skill in
which she or he is interested enough to invest energy.
There’s a focus here on fostering students’ self-esteem
and physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well being.
Students learn to take responsibility for their actions and
manage behavior appropriately. They’re also taught to think
divergently and creatively at complex levels, to problem solve,
and to develop habits that promote success.
Teaching programs are structured to accommodate the
learning needs and talents of individual students. A
teacher/pupil ratio of 1:10 ensures small classes and individual
attention is guaranteed in basic reading, writing, spelling
and mathematical skills. Every student also has access to a
computer, as well as supervised access to the Internet.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to become involved
and frequent consultations take place with staff members.
At Heritage Academy, students learn and develop socially
and emotionally in a positive, nurturing environment.
