mom. Karen lives an hour away from
Ottawa so she is not able to look in on
her daily.
The volunteers who deliver meals
come from all walks of life and range
from seniors to young parents with
children. Working individuals deliver
meals on lunch hours or breaks. The
King’s Daughters Dinner Wagon has
been fortunate to have the services of
corporate delivery teams who have
adopted regular routes and deliver
meals during their lunch hours on designated
days. Spare drivers are always
needed when circumstances prevent
regular volunteers from doing their
scheduled runs. Corporate delivery
teams currently are MBNA, Enbridge,
and Prudential Maximum Realty. Terri,
who now is a director, started delivering
Meals on Wheels on her lunch
hour at Enbridge in 1991. Coworkers
started helping in 1994, and, with the
blessing of management, organized
teams have continued.

best way to brighten your own. It
has also been proven that volunteering
increases interest and
vitality and self-esteem, and adds
years to life by boosting the
immune system and reducing
blood pressure and heart rate.
Although most volunteers give it
back or take a tax receipt in lieu,
there is usually a car allowance
for volunteers, so even those who
can’t afford the cost of doing the
delivery can participate.
Meals on Wheels’ volunteers
are needed in other areas as well
as meals delivery. Individuals or
corporations can help with in-
