Ah, summer. I can’t tell you how much I love anticipating this time of
year. I’m especially looking forward to getting out and exploring the
neighbourhoods that make up this great city of ours.
As the region grows, more families are nurturing mini-communities
among larger ones. Some of the emerging areas of Ottawa
include the village of Westboro, Parkdale Avenue near Wellington
Street and, of course, the Glebe. But outlying areas such as Osgoode,
Manotick and even Carp are making their own mark on our municipal
landscape by hosting some of the region’s best farmers’ markets
and festivals.
Communities are best explored by foot. In the summer some of
the best buys are found along our neighbourhood streets on Saturday
mornings when people get out hunting through garage sale goodies
and sipping coffee while they browse. If you’re not walking through
your neighbourhood, the next best thing is to cycle it. I believe it’s
only the avid cyclists who realize you can cycle virtually from one end
of the city to the other on a bike path.
Somehow, in the summer you just see more. In this spectacular
issue, we have the perfect recipe for just about anything you want to
do this summer. Start out with the perfect recipe by food columnist
Pam Collacott, who instructs us on how to make fantastic summer
meals that are as easy as pie. If the ingredients and ease of how to
make these dishes don’t convince you to try them, the pictures will.
And, if you’re wondering what the arts scene holds over the summer
months, look no further. We have it all. And, we haven’t forgotten
about our golfers. Check out our expanded golf guide for all the
latest information on area courses.
So, whether you plan to play on your holidays or to travel to
another part of the province, city or country this summer or, like us,
head to your special get-away, I hope that you will enjoy your special
place — wherever that may be.
