protected refuge has a
long sandy beach on the banks of
the Ottawa River, as well as lots of
scenic trails and a nature and interpretation
centre. In winter, it’s a
favourite place for ice fishing, crosscountry
skiing and snowshoeing.
Urban amenities and a
natural paradise
Another natural attraction is the
Mer Bleue Conservation Area.
Located southwest of Orléans, it’s a
distinctive and prized wetland situated
in an ancient channel of the
Ottawa River.The boreal-like ecosystem
of this bog is normally not
found this far south and it’s home to
an number of unusual species. A
boardwalk, hiking trails and crosscountry
skiing trails allow visitors to
explore and enjoy it.
The Bob MacQuarrie Recreation
Complex, at 1490 Youville Drive, features
a six-lane pool, diving boards
and a therapeutic pool, as well as an
arena, squash courts and a fitness
studio. Numerous recreation programs
are offered including fitness,
aquafitness, swimming lessons and
general interest programs. The Ray
Friel Recreation Complex, at 1585
Tenth Line Road, has three NHL size
arenas, a wave and leisure pool, a fitness
