Feng Shui Secrets
Creating a comfortable living space
without spending a lot
Try these tips from the experts
1. Doors. The doorway into any space is known as the
“Mouth of Chi” and is the only way that chi or life force can
enter that space. Make sure your doors are unobstructed
and in good working order — not squeaking, sticking or
with broken parts.
2. Command Position. The three most important pieces of
furniture that affect your life are your bed (overall health
and personal relationships), desk (work and creativity) and
stove (finances). Put each of them in a command position
or put a cure in place if it’s impossible to move them.
3. Clutter. Clutter obstructs the flow of chi, creates a chaotic
environment and robs you of precious energy. Keep all
horizontal surfaces as clear as possible, organize and contain
the items that must be left out to experience great overall
health benefits. Clean out the basement, attic and
garage, as well as the living areas of your home and also your
office.
4. Space Clearing. Whenever you move into a new space, it’s
a good idea to do some space clearing, especially if you suspect
or know of previous issues such as a death or serious illness
in the home, or if the previous occupant of your office
was fired or demoted. Common methods for space clearing
include the use of sound, scent, water, words or light.
5. Lighting. Illuminate dark areas that sap energy. Invite in
natural light with windows and skylights. Use full-spectrum
light bulbs. Soften the glare and negative chi of fluorescent
lighting by adding a desk, table or floor lamp to the area.
Mirrors double everything — do not use them in areas of
harsh lighting, but do use them to bring extra light into
dark, drab areas that need a lift.
6. Plumbing, Electrical, Heating and Air Conditioning. Be
sure all these internal systems are functioning properly and
receive regular cleaning and maintenance. Make needed
repairs and replacements (such as burned-out light bulbs)
immediately. Systems that run through the whole house or
building relate to the body’s systems, such as immune, circulatory
and nervous systems.
7. EMFs (electric and magnetic fields). Interior electromagnetic
pollution is caused by electrical equipment — appliances,
TVs, computers, etc. EMFs leak into your environment,
causing energetic toxicity, weakened immune systems and illness.
Minimize your exposure to them, especially in your bedroom
and dining room. TVs and computers should be kept
out of the bedroom. If there is no choice, at least cover them
when they’re not in use, particularly when you are sleeping.
8. Sacred Space. Your home should be your haven, your
office a place of pleasant productivity. Surround yourself
with beauty and objects that you love or find useful.
