and shoving to get their hands on
this particular dolly – the one with
the plastic face, yarn hair, cloth
body and adoption papers.
Barbie? Forget it. That year,
other dolls just wouldn’t do.
Undoubtedly, many tears were
shed – tears of frustration for the
grown-ups who were out of luck and
tears of joy for those who scored
the big prize with minimal bloodshed.
As for the kids? Well, other
than tears of fatigue after too many
sweets and too much excitement,
they probably managed to content
themselves and get on with having a
celebration, one way or the other.
Over the years, other
Christmas crazes have included a
mad dash for games such as
Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit.
There’s also been a not-so-trivial
