“Winterfest attracts visitors to the community
at a time when our tourism
industry partners have high capacity
and usually low demand for tourism
product and services. The event, as
such, provides significant incremental
benefits to Brockville and a much
needed shot of economic adrenaline.
Equally important is the enhancement
of the image and prestige of hosting a
provincial and national level event,
which helps to grow the reputation as
a sporting event destination.”
Winterfest 2009 plays an important
role in sport development and
participation for adults 55 and older
in Ontario. It provides them with a
full range of body, mind, and spirit
benefits and opportunities for competition,
social interaction and other
skill enhancements needed to maintain
a happy and healthy life. This is an
integral component of the Strategy for
Amateur Sport in Ontario.
David Dargie, Chairman of
Winterfest 2009, explains: “Brockville
and area is well known for the spirit
of volunteerism and support for special
events that our citizens exhibit.
Winterfest 2007 saw over 300 volunteers
in four different municipalities
help to make this event the best event
ever. Bringing Winterfest 2009 to
Brockville will give us another opportunity
to showcase that excellent
community spirit and support, as well
as give people from across the
province a sense of how fortunate we
are to live in the Thousand Islands.
Winterfest 2007 generated an economic
impact of over one million dollars
in Leeds County. We are certain
that this total will be surpassed by
Winterfest 2009 because of more
anticipated participants and even
greater support from our corporate
partners. This special event is good
business for Brockville and area and
Winterfest 2009 is an awesome
opportunity for all of our citizens to
sell the great lifestyle that we enjoy
here in the Thousand Islands to visitors
from across the province”.
