to light? They generally avoid
bright sunshine. Each worm has five
hearts, so you gotta love them! In
addition, did you know that the average
Canadian produces a tonne of
waste each year? An estimated one
third to one half of household waste
is organic matter. Composting with
red wigglers is a clean and environmentally
friendly way to save tonnes
of waste from going to landfill.

is one way of being good
earth stewards.”
Worm Composting in the
Classroom is a program Gerrie offers
to schools in Ontario.“Teaching vermicomposting
in the classroom encourages
children to see organic waste not
as garbage but as worm food,”remarks
Gerrie.“Brown paper towelling,lunchbox
scrapes, chalk dust and floor
sweepings can be recycled and
returned to school yards’ eroded and
depleted pavement-like soil.” It is all
thanks to worms!
