Vermicomposting is a natural process where kitchen
and yard waste decompose into a dark, nutrient-rich,
earth-smelling soil. This process is simply composting
with worms, red wigglers (eisenia foetida to be exact).
They eat and expel their own weight every day and the
finished compost is ready to harvest in as little as two
months. You will never need to buy soil for your indoor
plants again!
Each kit comes equipped with everything you need to
get started, including very easy instructions. This is not a
complicated process and it brings us one-step closer to
improving our earth stewardship. Gerrie and Ray have perfected
this process to make it easy for us to use… just three
steps! Bins can be kept in your basement or a heated garage
over the winter and taken outdoors in the warmer weather.
Fed them once or twice a week,and if you are away,they are
quite capable of managing on their own for a few weeks.
Vermicomposting is aerobic, which is odourless. (It is
under anaerobic conditions that unpleasant odours are present.)
The food waste should be covered lightly with some
soil to maintain aerobic conditions, as well as eliminate
unwanted pests, such as fruit flies.The finished product is
