SoyaCow project
Raj and Rashmi Gupta of Ottawa invented the SoyaCow machines.
ProSoya Foods Ltd., a group of Ottawa scientists and entrepreneurs, developed the technology for the project.
Protein-rich soy milk is cheaper to produce than cow’s milk.
The SoyaCow machine can turn 3.75 pounds (1.7 kg) of raw soybeans into 63.6 gallons (14 L) of soy milk in
30 minutes.
One machine can produce 63.6-gallons (16 14-L batches) in an eight-hour day. This is equivalent to the milk production
of a herd of 16 cows in India.
Child Haven formed a SoyaCow support group in 1988. By 1992, it owned six SoyaCow machines. Now, with
the help of the Canadian International Development Agency, it has 35 machines.
