The Tapestry Chamber Choir presents Gala Concert
Celebration! at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at Main
and Water Streets in Newmarket on June 8 at 3 p.m. In celebration
of the choir’s 20th anniversary, it has commissioned
a choral work by Imant Raminsh, one of Canada most popular
choral composers.Also on tap are thrilling harmonies of
favourites from the Tapestry repertoire by Durufle, Willan
and Faure, as well as gems from their folk song and spiritual

The next best thing to visiting Nova Scotia is to tour the
Bluenose II (or The Nose as Nova Scotians call her) during
one of the schooner’s infrequent visits to the Toronto
area. That opportunity presents itself from June 19 to 23
when the magnificent craft will be dockside for the
Annual Toronto Maritime Festival at Harbourfront’s
Queen’s Quay.There will be no public cruises, but visitors
are invited aboard for a tour on all five days. This Canadian
icon is one of seven tall ships that will be at quayside during
the festival, including four Class A vessels. The event
also honours Canadian Aboriginal Day on June 21 with a
variety of demonstrations and fireworks. The Festival is a
free event except for a gated Scottish music festival or

Flower power will be in full bloom in Brampton on June
21. In keeping with its reputation as Canada’s Flower City,
Brampton presents its annual Flower City Parade at 2
p.m. Onlookers can enjoy professional marching bands,
colourful floral floats and acrobats parading down Main
Street. But that’s not all. There is also a free display of
Brampton’s best floral arrangements at the City Hall Atrium
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a result of a floral competition

Polo for Heart is Canada’s largest fundraising polo tournament.
It takes place June 20 to 22 at the Gormley Polo
Centre in Richmond Hill.International polo teams do battle
twice daily, with money raised going to support the Heart
& Stroke Foundation of Ontario and Southlake Regional
Hospital. Food and refreshments are on sale or you can

bring your own picnic lunch and perhaps win a prize in
the Perfect Polo Picnic contest. There is a silent auction,
boutiques tent, children’s village and live music in the

The 12th Annual Pickering Dragon Boat Challenge
makes waves at Bruce Handscombe Park June 7 and 8
from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than 120 teams compete
throughout the weekend, with the High School Challenge

A Peony Festival fills the air with its heady fragrances on
June 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oshawa Valley

presentations during the display of Canada’s largest
