Breast size may be a
diabetes indicator
Although the findings are
preliminary, a new study in the
Canadian Medical Association
Journal has found that women
with a bra cup size of D or larger
are almost five times more
likely to develop diabetes than
women with an A cup. Other
risk factors aside, the research
raises the possibility that like
fat that accumulates in the
belly, breast fat may also be
resistant to insulin, the underlying
cause of diabetes. Doctors
caution women not to think
they have to have breast reduction
surgery as more studies
need to be performed but don’t
be surprised if your doctor
starts measuring your breast
size along with your belly size if
they suspect diabetes or heart
disease.

Muscle cells contain calcium.When muscles tire, calcium begins to leak out of
them, which stimulates an enzyme that eats into muscle fibres, causing more muscle
exhaustion. When athletes were tested during intense exercise, researchers
found that calcium channels in muscle cells leaked. However, a few days later the
channels had repaired themselves and the muscle fatigue was gone.Although the
original research originated from scientists trying to understand why heart muscles
weaken in heart patients, the findings are helping doctors understand the molecular
events underlying fatigue and design therapies to deal with the fatigue on a caseby-case
basis.
