Artists work almost every day
of the week inside the Glen
Williams' Glass Studio
painters and a graphic art collective.
The artists’ studios are open to the public Fridays and
Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., and by appointment other
days. The Williams Mill (905 873-8203;
www.williamsmill.com), 511 Main Street, is a gallery
exhibiting and selling the artwork made by Mill artists (and
a few others from Ontario). It’s open Wednesday through
Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
Beside the gallery building is The Mill Building (or
Yellow Mill because it’s bright yellow). Built in 1850, this is
the oldest structure in the complex and houses a number
of artists in the front of the building, such as painter and
printmaker Margaret Peter (519 822-6169; www.margpeterprints.com).
Jo Walterson (905 873-4027; www.jowalterson.com)
has a sunlit studio filled with large-scale floral
and soft abstract paintings. Candace Slack (519 856-2763;
www.virtu-L.com), painter and photographer, is a motorcycle
enthusiast whose current passion is capturing “the culture
of motorcycles on canvass.” At Studio Melange (905
873-7366) you can deck out yourself, not your walls.
Clothing designers Bonnie Glass and Sandra Krosse call
themselves “artistic couturiers” who create ornate and
romantic wearable art.Their designs are complimented by
jewellery by Debra Usher (www.arabellapines.com).

path to the back of the building so you don’t miss the other
artists: potters Zsuzsa Monostory, Carol-Ann Michaelson
(905 873-2147) and Carolyn Filter (905 873-2893), and
painter Sheri Tenaglia (905 873-3220).
Nearby, The Stone Building, Courtyard and
Gallery was originally built in 1898 as the area’s electric
power plant. It’s now packed with painters, sculptures and
others. Naomi Assenheim (416 908-6981) and Janice Smith
(905 877-6622) design one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces and
Jim Reid (905 702-1958), Marlene Madole (905 459-9753),
Simon Fraser MacDonald (905 846-2382), and Walter
Gulezko (905 877-8315) are all painters. Christine Ford
(905 873-0399;www.myquiltstudio.com) is the lone quilter
and fibre artist; Gordon Wright (905 702-1606) and
Bernhard Viehweber (647 227-6642) specialize in stained
glass works; Carmen Hickson (905 873-1781) assembles
metal and Susan Wakefield (905 873-0641) multi-tasks by
creating paintings, jewellery and creative metal works.
A highlight of a visit to this building is the Williams
Mill Stone Sculptors’ Studio, home to three artists who
grind, sand and carve various types of marble, soapstone
and limestone into fluid, smooth, abstract and figurative
carvings. Eileen Millen (905 452-4952; www.eileensculpts.com)
focuses on the human condition in her
expressive facial — almost bust-like — pieces. Michael
