Six Nations is one of Ontario’s best kept secrets

Afascination with Native culture extends far beyond
Canada’s borders.
“So far, I’ve had visitors from 48 different countries,”says
Lisa Johnson, owner of The Bears Inn on The Six
Nations Reserve along the Grand River in Southern
Ontario.“I keep track because I think it’s interesting.If you
are from Europe, where else are you going to be exposed
to Native culture except in North America, especially
Canada?”
Proximity to aboriginal culture is something a lot of
Canadians take for granted and, outside of what we see on
a few school trips, might not know a lot about.And that’s
why Six Nations near Brantford, Ontario, is encouraging
people to check out the area by driving down for a day or
a weekend or attend one of the many upcoming festivals
in the area.After all, Six Nations is a contemporary, relaxed
and historically significant community. It’s also home to
some of the last remaining Carolinian forests in Southern
Ontario, so you will breathe easy.
The area has its own newspaper and radio station.
While in the area, tune into 100.3 FM and listen to an
assortment of broadcasts including classic rock, traditional
