In the Know
How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life
Alan Lakein, Time-Management Consultant
New American Library
ASIN B000NQ6MY4
Alan Lakein wrote this small, practical book in 1974 and, to date, it is still a respected
resource and a top seller in major bookstores across Canada. Described as possibly the best
book on time management ever written, its main premise is that we do not need to focus so
much on time efficiency but, rather,we need to learn how to be more effective with our time.
It seems like a small difference but the author describes time-efficiency as merely reducing
activities to a series of steps whereas time effectiveness involves more thinking around how
you really want to use your time to do more of the things that you really want to do.This
philosophy is evident in the various chapter titles, which include issues like letting fear hold us
back or losing our sense of priorities. We all have such busy and fractured lives and this small guide seems to recognize
that and, rather than making us feel bad, it helps us to reframe and use the important things as the basis for moving
forward. Recommended by the Heart Institute Health Education Centre Heart Advisor Program.
