There’s still time to take in a performance of Summer
Music in the Garden on Toronto’s waterfront at 475
Queens Quay West. This popular showcase of music and
dance performances has been running since early June and
a final concert will be held on September 24. Information
on show times and performers can be obtained by calling
416 973-4963. Even if you can’t take in one of the free concerts,
you can tour the Toronto Music Garden designed by
internationally renowned cellist YoYo Ma and landscape
architect Julie Moir Messervy as a reflection in landscape
of Bach’s First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello.
Mirvish Productions presents two internationally
acclaimed productions for theatre buffs this month. Dirty
Dancing the Musical finishes its 11-month run at the
Royal Alexandra Theatre on September 28.The curtain rises
nightly Tuesday through Sunday at 8 p.m.with matinee performances
on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets range from $26 to $110. With a first Toronto performance
on September 9, the Canon Theatre presents the
fantasy Spamalot directed by Tony Award-winner Mike
Nichols. Evening performances at 8 p.m. run Tuesday to
Saturday. On Sundays the curtain rises at 7 p.m. while matinee
performances on Saturdays and Sundays start at 2 p.m.

Film buffs can get a sneak preview of some of next year’s
Oscar contenders by attending the 33rd annual Toronto
International Film Festival running at various venues
around the city between September 4 and 13. Considered
one of the top celluloid offerings in the world, the Toronto
event is billed as the premiere film festival in North
America from which the Academy Awards race begins. For

The second annual Virgin Music Festival, featuring such
artists as Foo Fighters, Oasis and The Weakerthans, takes
place on Toronto Island on September 6 and 7.A one-day
pass, including a return ferry run to the island, is priced at
$87 while a two-day pass goes for $159. One caveat — if
you don’t like crowds, you might want to give this event a
miss. A total of 100,000 tickets have been issued for this
weekend gala. Tickets can be obtained by calling

Red Hot Jazz & Cool Blues is the title of a one-night offering
September 3 by Burlington’s Royal Botanical Gardens.
