using the road in one direction, but expect to find a narrow
paved shoulder and lots of traffic. The Georgian Trail also
provides the cyclist with access to many designated road
tours that are conveniently marked out in the free
brochure Cycling the Georgian Triangle. These routes are
even rated for you, from easy to double trouble and they
include the 38-kilometre loop ride from Meaford (named
the Irish Mountain Climb and rated as a workout), the 12kilometre
Thornbury Garden Tour (rated easy), the 35-kilometre
Wasaga Wanderer (rated easy), the 35-kilometre Blue
Mountain Killer Loop (which includes a gruelling climb up
the Scenic Caves Road), the 50-kilometre (return) Wasaga
Beach Cruise from Collingwood (rated easy), and the 61kilometre
Double Trouble loop route from Collingwood to
Feversham and back.
At the east end of the Georgian Trail, in Collingwood,
you can continue cycling by hooking up to the wonderful
network of community trails. Hats off to the efforts of the
Collingwood Trails Committee, for several kilometres of
marked trails have been added in the past few years and it’s
now possible to ride around the community on these offroad
routes. (What a nice addition!) You can bike directly
from the Georgian Trail to the Collingwood harbour area
via the Harbourview Trail, Heritage Trail, and Sunset Point
Trail. There’s also a nice off-road loop tour of Collingwood,
which includes some single track and grassy sections. (I
even found myself in a corn field at one point.) And not far
away from Collingwood there’s even more enjoyable bike
riding on the hard-packed surface of one of the world’s
longest freshwater beaches — Wasaga Beach — but watch
out for the tanned bodies while cycling there!
The Georgian Triangle is a wonderful place for cycling,
whether you’re simply seeking a rather relaxing ride or prefer
a more adventurous,exhilarating mountain biking experience.There
are cycling rentals and service available in the
area, so check it out for yourself via two wheels. You’re certain
to enjoy those wonderful views of the Blue Mountains
and Georgian Bay.

Guide gives you
everything in one place
One of the most challenging things about being a
consumer is not knowing where to go for information,
especially when it comes to government
services.
The problem can be particularly frustrating for seniors. To
help, the federal government has produced a helpful
new guide, Services for Seniors.
The guide is designed for Canadian seniors, those
over 50 who are planning their retirement, families of
seniors, or their caregivers. It lists more than 120 federal
government resources for seniors and their families,
including information on finances and pensions, health
and wellness, housing, safety and security, veterans and
Canada's military, consumer issues, travel and leisure, and
computers and learning.
Research conducted by Service Canada has found that
Canadian seniors are not always aware of the services available
to them and would appreciate being able to see all
government initiatives described in one complete guide.
The services for seniors guide does just that and more,
offering information on how to easily access these programs
through Service Canada. There's even a helpful section
on how to contact provincial or territorial government
offices.
The guide is presented in a larger-than-average print
size for readers whose eyesight may be a problem. It is also
available in alternate formats. You can view or download
the guide at servicecanada.gc.ca. You can also obtain a
copy through 1 800 O-Canada (1 800 622-6232), by email
at guide@canada.gc.ca or in person at one of the 320
Service Canada Centres nearest you.
