Port Hope E xplore Ontario
One of Ontario’s oldest and prettiest
communities, historic Port Hope is
just a scenic drive away. A heritage
conservation district, the lovely main
street is the best preserved 19th century
streetscape in the province. There
are over 275 designated homes and
buildings and self-guided historic
walking tour booklets are available.
The antique capital of Ontario, Port
Hope also features over fifty quality
vendors, plus numerous high-end
boutiques, galleries, specialty and
fashion shops in the downtown heritage
district.
Port Hope’s cultural gem, the
Capitol Theatre, is one of Canada’s last
operating atmospheric theatres.
Fashioned after a medieval castle, it
gives patrons the illusion of being seated
in an outdoor garden. This summer’s
lineup at the Capitol includes
Educating Rita, The Buddy Holly
Story, Same Time Next Year and
Anne of Green Gables the Musical.
Other Port Hope attractions
include excellent restaurants, a world
class spa, an eighteen hole golf
course, and trails along the Ganaraska
River and Lake Ontario. Watch for the
upcoming Canada Day Celebrations,
Arts Festival, Fall Fair, Jazz Festival and
House Tour. Call 1 888 767-8467 for a
free tourist information package.
