Misery, Stephen King’s highly
acclaimed novel about a writer’s worst
nightmare — ending up in the clutches
of an obsessed fan — comes to life at
the Bluma Appel Theatre at the St.
Lawrence Centre in downtown Toronto
May 1 to 31. Award-winning romance
novelist Paul Sheldon is a car accident
victim.He wakes up to find he has been
rescued by an avid reader,Annie Wilkes.
It doesn’t take long for Paul to realize
that he is not a patient but a hostage,
and Annie has quite a temper. This
thriller keeps the audience on the edge
of their seats from start to heart-stopping
finish. Tickets range from $20 to
$89 ($20 to $56 for seniors) and are
available at the box office at 27 Front

The St. Lawrence String Quartet
will celebrate its 20th season in 2009.
At 8 p.m. on May 1 of this year the
group offers a concert at the Jane
Mallett Theatre at the St. Lawrence
Centre. Billed as the best North
American quartet of its generation,the
group ends its program for the season
with the last great works of
Beethoven.The quartet features Geoff
Nuttall (violin), Scott St. John (violin),
Lesley Robertson (viola) and Chris
Costanza (cello). Tickets go for $41
and $45 and are available at the box

The Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra,
under the direction of Kerry Stratton,
is proud to present a new work
called Concerto Grosso, which was
commissioned from French-Canadian
composer Serge Arcuri. French
Impressions, to be staged at the
George Weston Recital Hall of the
Toronto Centre for the Arts at 5040
Yonge Street in North York, also
includes works by Ibert, Debussy
and Ravel. The performance takes
place at 8 p.m. on May 8. Depending
on seating arrangements, tickets
range from $29 to $59 ($25 to $49

It’s toe-tapping time May 10 at the
St. Lawrence Centre’s Jane Mallett
Theatre in downtown Toronto.
Puttin’ on the Ritz, an evening of
Irving Berlin’s immortal show tunes,
will be presented at 8 p.m. by the
ORIANA Women’s Choir with

Special guests are James Bourne
(piano), Victor Bateman (bass) and

The Factory Theatre presents
CrossCurrents, a series of events
dedicated to playwrights of colour,
from May 2 to 11 (excluding May 5).
Now in its seventh year,CrossCurrents
will offer a series of staged playreadings,
music, dance and other special
