service in community establishments
such as hospitals and libraries,
to serving as a volunteer in some of the
thousands of organizations that make
our communities run successfully.
Entertaining. Providing pleasurable
diversion for those who may
have excess time on their hands can
range from a friendly visit to the sick
or the confined and engaging with
them in simple conversation or a
game to brighten their day to becoming
part of a musical or acting group
that provides entertainment to the
less fortunate. Or perhaps use those
talents for fundraising.
Creating. Producing through
one’s own efforts articles of lasting
value: jewellery, toys, furniture, paintings,
or carvings that may be sold to
provide supplementary income, kept
as personal belongings, or specifically

gifted to organizations to keep or to
use in fundraising.
Preserving. Saving from harm or
extinction bird and animal species and
their habitats, for example, or other
natural phenomena, as well as manmade
items such as heritage buildings
and works of art.

Having unleashed your imagination
and considered possibilities and
options, the final step is to kick it
into gear and get going! Remember,
the longest journey begins with a
first step.
